Bueng Chawak has an area adjacent to Hankha District, Chainat Province and Doem Bang Nang Buat District, Suphanburi Province. As of which, the part that is in Doem Bang Nang Buat District has an area of approximately 1,700 rai.
Bueng Chawak has been declared as a non-hunting area since 1983; and in 1998, it was designated as a wetland of national importance according to the Ramsar Convention, which Thailand is a member, due to the diversity of flora and fauna in the marsh.
The features known as a wetland according to the Ramsar Convention are lowland area, marshy area, wet area, flooded, stagnant water, peatlands, and water resources areas both naturally occurring and man-made; either with waterlogging or flooding, permanently or temporarily, both still and running water sources, fresh water, brackish water and salt water including the coast and the sea in the area when the tide is the lowest, and the water depth is not more than 6 meters. As of which, Bueng Chawak is qualified in the category of a freshwater swamp that occurs naturally, and the average depth is about 1 - 3 meters.
